Welcome to my search for the ideal reading lighting. We all need a little bit more of it, let's face it. At first look, discussing the finest light bulbs for reading might seem a little meaningless. It is dark. Then light returns. Tada!
However, lighting is crucial! When your home's electricity last went out, what did you do? Probably because illumination is so important, people got out their flashlights. When reading, you need the best kind of illumination because the wrong kind can utterly destroy the mood.
So without further ado, let's exit the shadows and enter the light with these top reading light bulbs!
Getting an uniform distribution of light is among the most crucial considerations when choosing the lighting for reading. One common error is to have one very bright bedside lamp that is fully focused in one area while the rest of the room is completely dark. When you glance around in the dark, this might make your eyes tired and cause your pupils to enlarge.
You might need to read in stronger light as you age. This is due to the simple fact that as we age, our eyesight declines. As a result, as you age, you need to raise the wattage. A 60-year-old may require a 75 or 100 watt standard bulb, whilst a 10-year-old may be able to read with a 40 watt standard light (equivalent of a 6W LED bulb) (equivalent of 13W-18W in LED terms). But keep in mind that excessive light or glare can also be harmful. Use a shade or change to a less bright light if the bright light is giving you a headache or tiring your eyes.
When deciding which light to use for bedtime reading, color temperature is also crucial. The most crucial thing to keep in mind is that while you must be able to clearly see the words, you do not want to be overstimulated by bright, cold light.
Anything beyond 3000K may be a too much for nighttime reading, but a good warm white or sunset white can offer a calming tone. Higher colour temperature bulbs appear more like natural light, whilst lower colour temperature bulbs typically have a candle-like appearance.
1. What color light is most suitable for reading?
Warm hues are ideal for reading lights. Possibly a mild orange or yellow. What it does is counteract the negative effects of artificial blue light, which we frequently receive in excess via our phones. Opt for a warm light rather than a white one.
2. Is reading in white or warm light preferable?
Warm light is preferable for reading since it is kinder to the eyes and lacks the negative effects of blue light. Additionally, it creates the ideal atmosphere for reading, making you feel at ease and like curling up with a good book by the fire.
3. Which light bulb wattage is ideal for reading?
A wattage of 40 to 60 watts, or its equivalent, is generally what you desire. You don't need really harsh or bright lights for reading. Instead, you should maintain warm, gentle lighting so that reading your favorite book won't strain your eyes.
In spite of being able to clearly see the book, choosing a light bulb with a high color temperature, such as a bluey, white daylight bulb, could easily deceive your body into believing it is daytime and disrupt your sleep. A warmer, more orange light bulb will aid in solving this issue.
Your decision may come down to personal preference, so if your present light is making you uncomfortable, think about switching to a bulb with a different color temperature or one that is less powerful.
