Whether you are a professional mechanic or a do-it-yourselfer, your garage, repair shop, or other workspace must be adequately lit. And, unless your garage was recently rebuilt, you're probably still using traditional incandescent lamps. However, because cold light promotes focus and makes it much easier to see details – a feature not to be overlooked in a workshop. Fortunately, current LEDs, a type of light bulb that has rapidly gained popularity in recent years because to the numerous benefits they offer, including a longer lifespan and much lower energy costs, are the greatest and most efficient source of cool light.
If you've decided to make the move to LEDs, or if you're just thinking about it and looking around, you'll see that there are a lot of options available, both good and terrible, and it can be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. We've taken the liberty of selecting and reviewing 10 of the best LED shop lights we could find to make the process a lot easier for you.
Of course, not all garages or businesses are the same, so we made sure to include a variety of types and models suitable for a variety of purposes - there should be something for everyone.
I hope it is useful!
1. Sunco Lighting LED Shop Light for Workshop Garage 4FT
Check out this Sunco Lighting two-pack of LED shop lights for industrial-grade garage lighting. These 4-foot-long lights have a 5,000K color temperature, which is great for garage situations, and emit 4,000 lumens per light. Install these on the ceiling or suspend them using the provided hanging hardware and cord. Each lamp features an on/off pull button and a supplied chain that is significantly more durable than string in an industrial situation. Anyone who wishes to have all of their lights controlled by a single switch can connect several sets and operate them from a single wall switch.
During testing, I discovered the Sunco Lighting industrial shop light to be outstanding. Despite the fact that the lights were wired together, each light was functioning, which meant I could switch them on and off without impacting the lights before or after them.
Other systems may employ proprietary plugs, although these lights used ordinary 110-volt outlet plugs. This enabled for straightforward connections, while the large cables made it simple to daisy-chain a set across the garage. I really appreciated how this system could be hung from a chain or mounted flush to the ceiling. The only criticism is that flush mounting will almost certainly necessitate drilling holes through the backplate due to the lack of evident mounting holes elsewhere.
2. 5000K LED Shop Light Linkable
A workbench light should have three features: an accessible power switch, the flexibility to hang it, and plenty of light. The hykolity store light meets all of your requirements. This lamp is 4 feet long, which is sufficient to illuminate most work surfaces. Installers can suspend it from the ceiling or behind a shelf using the provided hanging hardware. The 42-watt LEDs create 4,200 lumens of light with a cool-toned 5,000K temperature.
During testing, the Hykolity LED store light was a dream to work with. First and foremost, installation was simple, and placing it over a workbench will be no problem. Second, this light fixture produced significantly more light than other single units. It can also be daisy-chained with other lighting because it uses a standard outlet plug. Because it's a touch pricy, I wish it came in a multipack to save money.
3. Illuminator 360 Garage Light
For garages with screw-in fixtures, qimedo's Illuminator is an excellent value. This low-cost 60-watt (total) fixture produces plenty of light: 2,000 lumens per leaf and a color temperature of 6,000K. That means it's a high-efficiency light fixture with 6,000 lumens and a cool temperature, making it suited for most garage environments. The metal body absorbs heat, allowing the LEDs to operate as efficiently as possible. If a certain region of the garage requires extra light, simply point one of the leaves in that way.
This screw-in fixture is the simplest and most effective approach I've found to install garage lighting. By mounting the Illuminator onto a base, I was able to transform a dark garage into a bright one in 30 seconds. I also loved how I could move the leaves in any direction, boosting or decreasing the amount of light as needed. The Illuminator appeared to be of high construction quality. My only complaint was that this product casts light from the center, which can generate shadows and gloomy corners if there are items in the way.
I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to garage lighting, so putting all of these devices through a hands-on test was a lot of fun. During the course of my tests, I considered a variety of factors.
First and foremost, the light has to be simple to install. Any light that I found problematic or difficult to install lost points, and the experience was mentioned in the review. Naturally, brightness is important. I evaluated how well each fixture or system lit the garage and a workbench. All of these models passed certification, with some marginally outperforming others.
Finally, I noted useful features such as the Sunco Lighting's ability to turn each individual light on and off independently of the others, and the Craftersmark's quick, sensitive motion sensor. I considered all of these considerations when selecting the products in my review. The end result is a collection of high-quality garage lighting items to assist DIYers in completing their projects.
Is it worthwhile to invest in LED garage lights?
Yes. Energy-efficient LED lights are more expensive up front, but they will save you money in the long run. LEDs are also more environmentally friendly—a tiny, easy consumer choice that we can all make to help reduce energy consumption. LEDs are also particularly well suited for unheated garages in cold areas because they do not require heating to illuminate.
Which is the better option for your garage?
Fluorescent bulbs have been the lighting of choice for garages, workshops, and warehouses for many years due to their low cost and overall endurance. However, now that LEDs are far more economical and available to the general public, they have surpassed classic tube lights as the far superior alternative. As well as the greatest smart light bulbs.
Overall, LED lights are more energy efficient, last longer, contain no toxic chemicals such as mercury, and emit no UV light. As a result, LED bulbs are the best choice for garage illumination. Fluorescent bulbs cannot be recycled, however many of the components in LED lights can, making them more environmentally friendly.
Is LED lighting brighter than fluorescent lighting?
The brightness of a bulb is determined by lumen output rather than bulb type. When comparing similar wattage bulbs, LEDs will be more efficient and thus brighter.
Proper lighting is vital whether you use your garage as a workshop or simply as a toolshed. However, depending on the type of work you do in there, how much light you need and where you need it will vary greatly. As a result, you are the only one who knows where you want your fixtures and how powerful they should be. Regardless of your individual situation, every model described above is well worth the money.
